Create Attached Component Groups in a Bill of Materials

  • This function is available to Product Suppliers

Introduction

Product suppliers with a 'Complete Bill of Materials' task must ensure any relevant Attached Components Groups and Sets are added to their Bill of Materials before submitting it to the retailer for approval.

Attached Components Groups and Sets impact the compliance and recyclability of a product's Bill of Materials and the resultant on-pack labelling.

Please see a separate guide for a detailed explanation of Groups and Sets with examples: What are Attached Components Groups and Sets?

Adding Component Groups & Sets

Before adding any Attached Component Groups and Sets to your Bill of Materials, please ensure all components in the Bill of Materials have been added.

1. First, click on the 'Attached Components' tab of your Bill of Materials and then on the '+ Add Attached Components Group(s)' button.

2. You will be redirected to the Attached Components Group(s) page. Select the component tier with the attached components and click on the '+ Select Components' button.

  • Attached components are all components that as a group form one unit of packaging (e.g., a bottle with a screw cap, or a label or a corrugated box with labels). These can be permanently attached, easily removable or removed prior to consumption.

3. The 'Select Attached Components' popup will appear on your screen. Select the components that are attached together by clicking on each component, then click the '+ Next' button once all are selected.

  • An Attached Components Group must have at least 2 components.

6. If you would like to upload supporting documentation for your Attached Components Group (e.g., leak test), click on the 'Upload file' button and select the file you wish to upload.

7. Next, add any relevant Sets to your Attached Components Group.

  • Sets are components that are permanently attached/are not easily detachable by the consumer (e.g., a label with permanent adhesive). Multiple sets can be added as required.
      • If your Group doesn't require Sets, tick the 'No sets required' box on the 'Sets' section of the page.
        • By ticking this box, you are confirming that all components in the attached group are easily separable by the consumer without using tools or force (e.g. a perforated/peelable label).
      • If your Group does require Sets, click on the '+ Add Set' button from the 'Sets' section of the page.

8. Select the components that make up your Set and mark a component as main. The main component in a Set is the component that the others are permanently attached to.

10. The 'Select Set Components' window will close and you can see your set on the 'Sets' section of the 'Attached Components Group(s)' page.

11. If your Set is compostable, click on the 'Compostable as Set' box. You will need to specify if the Set is home or industrial compostable and attach the certification.

      • Compostable sets are components that have been tested and certified as home or industrial compostable as a group. Components that are individually compostable must also be certified as a group of components to meet these criteria.
