Create a new Bill of Materials: Create a new Bill of Materials by copying and amending an existing one
Users are now able to create a new Bill of Materials by copying and amending an existing one.
This feature is especially useful if you need to create a Bill of Materials that is similar to an existing one, or that shares a lot of the same components as another.
After a new brief is created by the retailer, the product supplier will receive a new ‘Create Bill of Materials’ task, where they will be able to decide if they want to create a new Bill of Materials / use an existing Bill of Materials or copy and amend from an existing Bill of Materials.
Click ‘Select Bill of Materials’ to select the Bill of Materials you want to copy. Once a Bill of Materials is selected click on ‘complete’ to complete the task.
A ‘Complete Bill of Materials’ task will be kicked off and assigned to all users in the organisation.
The new Bill of Materials will already be linked to the same components as the components from the copied Bill of Materials. For example, if the copied Bill of Materials had the components A, B and C, the new Bill of Materials will also be linked to the components A, B and C.
You can unlink and add new components to finish your new Bill of Materials before submitting it.
Versioning Components
Users with a ‘Complete Bill of Materials’ task can use the new ‘version component’ functionality to copy and amend an existing component.
The ‘Create new version’ button is available when a component is linked to more than one Bill of Materials and should be used if you would like to create a new component based on an existing one.
For example, if you need a component that has a different coating from the one linked to your Bill of Materials or if the component you want to amend is active and locked.
To version a component, just click on the context menu to the right of the component and select the ‘Create new version’ option.
A popup will appear prompting you to enter a ‘New version name’. Give your new component a name and click ‘yes’ to continue. The system will create a copy of the ‘original’ component linked to your Bill of Materials, link the new component to your Bill of Materials and unlink the ‘original’ component.
A ‘Complete component’ task will be kicked off for the new component. This task will be assigned to the user that created the new component version.
When you access the new component, its specification form will be pre-filled with the information of the ‘original’ component. Amend the component as needed and submit it as normal to finish creating your new Bill of Materials.
Please note, the ‘Create new Version’ button will only be available if a component is linked to more than 1 Bill of Materials. If the component is only linked to the Bill of Materials you are working on, you can amend the component without the risk of affecting other Bills of Materials.
