Introduction
SKUs represent a unique combination of a Product and a Bill of Materials. This item is needed because Bills of Materials can behave in different ways within the context of a Product.
For example, a single Bill of Materials could be linked to 3 products and have 3 different sales states:
- Product 1: Bill of Materials is 'on sale'
- Product 2: Bill of Materials is 'off sale'
- Product 3: Bill of Materials is 'archived'
The Bill of Materials as an entity already has its own statuses: In Progress (full and basic), Approval in Progress (full and basic) and Active. These statuses will remain as they describe the life cycle of the Bill of Materials from its creation to its approval.
The Bill of Materials can be in different states depending on the context of the Product, therefore, the SKU will have its own statuses.
Below, you can see the SKUs tab of a Product details page. Each Bill of Materials relationship (i.e. a SKU) has its own status:
SKU Statuses vs Bill of Materials Statuses
Bill of Materials Statuses:
- In Progress: the creation of a new Bill of Materials has been briefed by a retailer and the Bill of Materials is in the process of being created/submitted.
- Approval in Progress: the Bill of Materials has been submitted to the retailer for approval.
- Active, this status is going to be renamed ‘Approved’: the Bill of Materials has been approved by the retailer, it’s now locked and ready to be put on sale as a SKU.
(For a more detailed explanation, please see our guide on Bill of Materials Statuses.)
